Corcovado - Cristo Redentor

Corcovado - Cristo Redentor

Without a doubt one of the most important postcards of Rio de Janeiro and Brazil. Located in Tijuca National Park, in the South Zone, and 710 meters from sea level, the Cristo Redentor is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The largest and most famous Art Deco sculpture in the world was developed by engineer Heitor da Silva Costa. It took five years of work, from 1926 to 1931, when the monument was inaugurated. With a stunning appearance, the statue was elected one of the Seven Wonders of the World in a vote organized in 2007 by the Swiss institution New 7 Wonders Foundation.

The monument is impressive with its 38 meters high, including eight meters on the pedestal. With arms 28 meters wide and a head that weighs 30 tons, Cristo Redentor is comparable to a 14-story building and was designed to resist winds of up to 250 km/h. In addition to all the views provided by the panoramic viewpoint, the path to the monument is also a great attraction. A train ride, which lasts around 20 minutes, crosses the Atlantic Forest and takes visitors to the top of the Corcovado. From there until the Cristo Redentor, there are 220 steps until you reach the foot of the Cristo Redentor, but panoramic elevators and escalators facilitate access for visitors.
