The iconic Museum of Contemporary Art of Niterói, considered by the international press one of the seven wonders of the contemporary world, draws attention for its unique architecture resembling a flying saucer. Designed by architect Oscar Niemeyer, the MAC sits on the Mirante da Boa Viagem, near Icaraí beach, with a breathtaking view of Guanabara Bay. Its collection has 1,217 works from the João Sattamini Collection, and consists of a small set of about 400 works – MAC Collection of Niterói – formed from donations from artists who held exhibitions at the museum. The Sattamini Collection is the second largest collection of contemporary art in Brazil and has works by artists Abraham Palatnik, Aluísio Carvão, Amilcar de Castro, Daniel Senise, Frans Krajcberg, Franz Weissmann, Hélio Oiticica, Iole de Freitas, João Carlos Goldberg, Lygia Clark, Lygia Pape, Mira Schendel, Raymundo Colares, Roberto Magalhães, Rubens Gerchman, Tomie Ohtake, among others.
