Museum of Sacred Art of Paraty

Museum of Sacred Art of Paraty

The museum, founded in 1978, operates in one of the main postcards of the city of Paraty, in the centennial Church of Santa Rita, in the Historic Center of Paraty. Its collection consists of important religious relics, found and collected from several other churches in the city. Among them, objects and utilities in silver and gold, images of saints, antique furniture, period pieces, among other sacred artifacts. The museum has baroque and terracotta images of angels and saints of important sacred artists, and several other pieces and utensils that make up the Catholic Liturgy: chalices, serpentines, crowns, basins, bells, jewelry and preciousness of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

The Museum has access ramps throughout its space and has 3 replicas of pieces from its collection for handling, with descriptive plates with braille captions. Many of the pieces exhibited in the Museum can be seen on the streets of the Historical Center at festivals such as Holy Week, Feast of the Divine, Corpus Christi and others. The visitation takes place from Tuesday to Sunday, from 8 am to 12 pm and from 2 pm to 5 pm. On Tuesdays, admission is free.

Where is it located at? R. Santa Rita, Largo de Santa Rita, Centro Histórico de Paraty-RJ.
