There is no one who goes to Petrópolis who does not want to visit the Imperial Museum, one of the largest and most visited museums in Latin America. The place is originally the Palácio Imperial of the mountain city. The entire collection is related to the Brazilian monarchical period. Much of the internal decoration was maintained, which allows visitors to travel back in time and discover the environments frequented by Emperors Dom Pedro I and Dom Pedro II. In the large halls, you can see furniture, documents, artworks, and personal belongings of the royal family. The crown of Dom Pedro I, the crown of Dom Pedro II, the last painted portrait of Dom Pedro I, the famous painting Fala do Trono, and the pen used by Princess Isabel to sign the Lei Aurea are the highlights of the visit.
The Imperial Museum of Petrópolis also has a library with around 50 thousand volumes and a collection of 250 thousand volumes of various other important documents for scientific research.
