The traditional Casa da Cultura Laura Alvim  in Ipanema, in Rio's South Zone, was transformed into the Casa G20  as of Thursday night 03/07). The space set up by the Rio de Janeiro State Government will be the stage for the promotion of Rio de Janeiro's identity and cultural exchange between Brazil and the other nations involved in the world's most important economic cooperation forum. Officially opened by Governor Cláudio Castro, the house will also have a vast program for visitors, signed by journalists and writers Ruy Castro and Nelson Motta, who were invited to curate the events.

Accompanied by the First Lady, Analine Castro, and the Secretary of Culture and Creative Economy, Danielle Barros, the governor exalted the importance of Casa G20.

- Casa G20 is a joint effort between the Department of Culture, Funarj, our International Affairs team and Communications, providing a unique experience for the exchange of ideas and cultures. We are going to promote our state and the actions developed by our administration in line with the themes debated by the G20 forums. It is a space where the world will really meet in Rio, from the Casa G20, a gateway for everyone. Rio de Janeiro for everyone. That's what we want," said Governor Cláudio Castro.

Ruy Castro will be responsible for a special exhibition focusing on the cultural and social narratives of Rio de Janeiro. Nelson Motta will curate a musical program consisting of 18 acoustic concerts tol take place every fortnight at the house over the course of eight months.

Casa Laura Alvim was chosen because of its proximity to the Ipanema and Copacabana waterfronts, where the main names in international diplomacy will be staying.

- The Casa G20 celebrates the meeting of the arts and diplomacy, becoming a true Cultural Embassy, with free and accessible programming for everyone. We will occupy this important cultural facility until November, always thinking about integration, dialogue and the construction of actions that celebrate Brazil's vocation to unite peoples, cultures, to show the best of Rio de Janeiro to the world - said Danielle Barros, Rio de Janeiro's Secretary of State for Culture and Creative Economy.

The G20 Leaders' Summit is scheduled for November 18 and 19, 2024, and will be attended by the leaders of the 19 member countries, plus the African Union and the European Union. The project is sponsored by Enel and the State Department for Culture and the Creative Economy, via the Culture Incentive Law, and carried out by Instituto BR and Quitanda Produções.

Throughout the year, government proposals and private initiative programs will energize Casa G20's routine. The March program is a reference to International Women's Month. The cultural embassy program begins in April.  The activities will be open to the public, including public schools, and free of charge. Until December, the G20 House will also operate as a press room for journalists from all over the world, as well as a space for gastronomic activities.

The ceremony, which was attended by around 200 guests on Thursday evening, ended with a concert by singer Mart'nália.
