Museum of Tomorrow

Museum of Tomorrow

In a time of great transformation, the proposal is for a different science museum, with paths that open for the future. At Museu do Amanhã, the grand narrative is about how it is possible to live and shape the next 50 years, based on ethical values of Sustainability and Coexistence. Opened in 2015, in Porto Maravilha, - a project to requalify the port region of Rio de Janeiro - the museum occupies 15 thousand square meters and is surrounded by water mirrors, garden, cycle path and leisure area. Its long shape was inspired by the bromeliads in the Botanical Garden and was designed to integrate with the surrounding landscape. With a bold design and a metal roof weighing 3,810 tons, the museum is the work of Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava. Its landscaping is designed by the Burle Marx office and has 5,500m² of planted area, which are distributed in 26 different species, such as purple and yellow ipês, quaresmeira, pau-brasil and pitangueira, as well as native sandbank shrubs and palm trees.
