Brazil-Norway Chamber of Commerce discusses interaction of economic activities linked to the oceans in search of sustainable practices

The Casa G20 received on Thursday (16/05) the Ocean Connections seminar: Norway and Brazil, organized by the Norwegian-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (NBCC), in partnership with the Norwegian Consulate in Rio de Janeiro. The event was attended by the Consul General of Norway, Mette Tangen, the Acting Secretary of Energy and Economy of the Sea, Felipe Peixoto, as well as members of the NBCC and entrepreneurs who maintain commercial relations between the countries.

The date marked the 210th anniversary of the Norwegian constitution. In the opening remarks, Mette Tangen highlighted the importance of celebration to the values of the nation.

– We are a free, democratic country that respects human rights and international agreements. It is very important to celebrate the consolidation of our democratic values in a scenario of fragile peace, Mette reinforced.

Regarding the use of the oceans for economic practice, the consul-general emphasized Norway's role in marine conservation and adoption of sustainable practices.

– We are leaders in marine conservation and in creating sustainable and innovative solutions to protect the oceans. We believe in this way we can do our part in the fight against climate change.

Secretary Felipe stressed the importance the sea has for the state's economic activity, bringing data on energy sector activities related to the sea, as well as exposing the dedication of Governor Cláudio Castro to the subject.

– We are responsible for 86% of national oil production, in addition to 74% of natural gas, a fuel we believe is the future of the energy transition. This is a matter dear to Governor Cláudio Castro, who created this Department to deal specifically with the economy of the sea and the energy transition, the first among Brazilian states, and very common in European countries that care about this subject.

The secretary stressed the potential of the state of Rio for energy generation through new clean matrices linked to the oceans.

– Our perspective is always in progress. The governor will sign the State Energy Transition Plan next month. Rio is at the forefront of this agenda. We have, for example, several requests for the implementation of offshore wind farms near the Port of Açu. Despite our extensive experience in the naval field, Norway will be a key partner for http://deprera.com.br of these actions.
