British Chamber held seminar on energy sector at G20 House

Casa G20 operates at Casa de Cultura Laura Alvim, in Ipanema, and hosted the twentieth edition of the International Energy Seminar, held by the British Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Brazil (Britcham) on Thursday afternoon (22.08). The event brought together leading experts and industry authorities to discuss energy supply security, costs and decarbonization. 

The participants reinforced that Brazil's energy network has more than 80% of renewable sources and diversification is essential for http://deprera.com.br. In addition, experts highlighted the country's potential to have a significant role in the area of hydrogen energy. 

The executive president of the Brazilian Biogas Association (Abiogás), Renata Isfer, quoted alarming data collected in research by the World Health Organization (WHO). The study found the exposure to gaseous pollutants while cooking food is responsible for the deaths at least of 4.3 million people annually. The polluting gases come from the burning of solid fuels such as firewood, manure, charcoal, among others. 

Also according to the study, most deaths are premature, and the most affected people are those living in situations of social vulnerability, especially women and children. The executive president of ABEEólica, Elbia Gannoum, defended the implementation of the green industrial policy in the country, in order to effect the ecological transformation in Brazil. For her, it is essential to create a legal and regulatory apparatus. 

During the last panel, Shell's Chief Climate Change Advisor David Hone presented trends and expectations about the energy sector in Brazil and how the international scenario impacts the decisions made in the country. Hone emphasized that Brazil has the capacity to lead other countries to achieve the zero net emissions scenario, known as “net-zero”. The words refer to the commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere.
