What is the G20?
The Group of 20, or G20, brings together the 19 largest economies in the world, the European Union, and, from this year, the African Union, with the goal of discussing essential issues for global stability and development.
The G20 was created in 1999, at a ministerial level, in response to the Asian financial crisis, and was elevated to Heads of State and Government in 2008, after the subprime crisis, which mainly affected developed countries.
Although it was initially created with a purely economic and financial focus, after 20 years of existence, the group began discussions on a wide range of topics, such as agriculture, sustainable development, health, education, culture, research and innovation, energy, and women’s empowerment.
